Bioethics Beyond the Bedside is an audio program dedicated to raising awareness about the ethical issues encountered in ambulatory care settings.

Bioethics Beyond the Bedside is produced by the Center for Health Policy and Ethics at Creighton University and Ethics Services at CHI Health in Omaha Nebraska. Our hosts are Mark Goodman and Leslie Kuhnel.

Our Hosts:

Dr. Mark Goodman
joined the Center for Health Policy and Ethics as a Faculty Associate in the fall of 2000. Dr. Goodman received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha in 1985. He completed his Family Practice residency at Rush University School of Medicine in Chicago in 1988. He has also been certified by the American Academy of Family Practice since 1988.

Dr. Goodman practiced medicine in the San Francisco area (1988-1990); he later relocated to Showak, Sudan (1990-1992) to work for the Lamba Association through the auspices of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees as medical director of their refugee clinics. After working for Omaha's Charles Drew Clinic (1992-1994), he joined the faculty of the Creighton Department of Family Medicine.

Dr. Goodman is on the board of directors of the Nebraska AIDS Project. He brings extensive experience in HIV/Aids care and research, and hospice care to the Center for Health Policy & Ethics.

Leslie Kuhnel has been with the CHI Health (formerly Alegent Creighton Health) Ethics Services since 2003. In her role, she leads various healthcare ethics initiatives and provides numerous ethics education programs for professionals and the community.  She facilitates several ethics committees for CHI Health, and frequently consults with clinical staff, patients and their families about the ethical dimensions of healthcare delivery.  Leslie received a Master’s of Science in Health Care Ethics degree from Creighton University and a Master’s of Public Administration degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.  Her background includes experience in hospice program development; and her interests include healthcare delivery in all patient care settings, ethics and end-of-life care, healthcare access and disparity, and understanding the principles of ethics in action.
