Biography

Dr. Beth Furlong has a M.S. in Community Health Nursing, a PhD in Political Science, and a Juris Doctorate. Her study of emphasis in Political Science was Health Policy with her dissertation being on Agenda Setting and the National Institute of Nursing Research.

At the invitation of the Open Society Foundation and the Albert Schwietzer Institute, she has taught Ethics to health professionals in the Republic of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Lithuania. In Spring 2006 she taught Community Health Nursing and Health Policy in two universities in Hungary as a Fulbright Fellow. She has been appointed to the national 21-member NIH Council of Public Representatives (COPR) and serves as COPR's representative to the NIH Advisory Council - both are advisory councils to the Director of NIH.

Dr. Furlong serves on the editorial review panel of Policy, Politics and Nursing Practice journal. She participates in many community and civic organizations and is on the Board of Directors of the Omaha Visiting Nurse Association.
