Female genital cutting refers to any procedure involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for cultural reasons. It is estimated that over 130 million women and girls and affected by this procedure worldwide. With the increase in immigrants to Omaha, health care providers are caring for patients that have undergone this cultural practice. As women health care providers we must develop an understanding of this ritual in order to provide quality care to all patients.
